Story

During summer 2019 I am going on what I hope is a once in a lifetime expedition to Mozambique and Swaziland for 3 weeks. The trip is through my school in Oxted and True Adventure and I will be one of around 60 students that take part.

As well as having the chance to see the different cultures, go on a trek and learn how to dive, I will also support the local people in Swaziland and Mozambique and help to give back to the communities and local areas we will be staying in. We are still finalising exactly what we will do, but it could involve tasks ranging from the renovation of an old building including repairing and redecorating the classrooms inside a local school to helping to build communal areas for village inhabitants along side local people as well as spending time getting to know the local residents and children, providing lessons and sports for the children and learning about the traditional cultures.

As part of my fund-raising efforts, I am challenging myself by taking part in my first Triathlon at Hever Castle on 22nd September 2018 – I will be competing in an over 15’s race and take part in an open water swim of 400 metres, a bike ride of 20km and a run of 4km.

I will keep you updated on how my training is going.

I would be extremely grateful for any support that you can give, however small. Part of the requirements for the adventure is for me to fundraise to cover the cost of the expedition. I am cutting grass, cat-sitting, washing cars, running a family bingo night and hoping to also get sponsorship for my triathlon.

Thank you very much if you can support me!

Matt
