So for my year out I have chosen to venture onto a Discipleship Training School (DTS), a 5-month course with the organisation Youth With A Mission (YWAM) which will be based in the University of Nations, Pichilemu, Chile.
On 3rd January 2017, I will travel out to Chile, where I will be based for 3 months. This is the where the lecture phase will be, a time for me to learn more about my faith as well as adjusting to the culture.
The whole team will then go on outreach to a different chosen destination (out of Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru or Argentina), so it will be a country more in need. On this phase we will invest all of our time into the chosen local area and community, adjusting how our time is spent, depending on the needs of the area, through building relationships and running youth clubs. In South America the church is central in every community. This means nearly all our work will be done through the church, as they are able offer support for the most marginalised members of the community. The DTS outreach phase will give the chance to apply the principles learnt during my lectures.
Obviously there is a cost involved mainly for accommodation, flights and food and then the outreach. I have been working full time and plan to pay my flights, accommodation and lectures as this phase is about trying to instigate real change and for me to intentionally give time to God.
I feel this venture will be very worthwhile to improve someone else’s life. I need support from friends and family in the form prayer, encouragement or financial gifts.
