    Story

Quite a few years ago I visited Watamu, Kenya and worked for a conservation organisation called Arocha. As with all great trips it's often the people that you meet that leave the biggest impact, it was here that I met Jonathan, one of the most inspiring and generous humans I have ever met. Jonathan was also volunteering with Arocha.

Although it's been six years since I last saw Jonathan we've kept in touch regularly via email and facebook. Last year Jonathan got into Pwani University to study Environmental health, he decided to do this so that he can help prevent the health problems and food shortages that continually affect his community due to the environmental conditions.

Jonathan is from Kalifi, which is in the Ganze district - the second poorest district in Kenya, it is affected by persistent draught and famine. He has seven siblings, none of which finished year eight in school. Some of his siblings have small paying jobs but it is not enough to support them, due to this especially bad year, Jonathan and his family often go without food. He is often unable to attend University, support himself or his family.

I've been supporting Jonathan for the last few months, but he needs a way of being able to sustainably get food. This is why we are raising money for Jonathan and his family to be able to start irrigational farming in the banks of the river Galana.

Jonathan has figured out a budget, which would cover him for one year. This includes land, machinery hire, seeds, pesticides etc (if you would like to see the budget I can send it to you). The amount comes to KSH50,000 which is equivalent to around £400. But this is an estimation so I've set the target at £500 and the farming won't come into effect immediately so he will need some money to survive on.

So I'm asking that if you have any money to spare, please could you donate, your money will go directly to a close friend of mine who is struggling to find the money to live.
