Story
Legitforleesy is a challenge that I created in memory of my brother, Mark Lees, who passed away from cancer in 2015.
After a few years in the dark, I wanted to create something that embodied Mark's fearless, kind, and incredibly tough spirit.
In 2020, the first Legitforleesy challenge was held, which was a 29km run on what would have been Mark's 29th birthday. The funds raised went to Clic-Sergeant, a leading cancer charity for young people.
In 2022, the challenge was taken up a notch with the "Goggins-Challenge", which involved running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours, raising funds to support young Alfie Fagan and his family, who was diagnosed with Leukaemia at age 6.
This year, the money raised will go to support the Squibbs family, who epitomise the spirit of who Mark was: hardworking, humble, and dedicated to helping others.
Last year Dan and his wife Charlie received the heartbreaking news that their youngest son, Tommy, had been diagnosed with Leukaemia. The Squibbs are exactly the kind of family that Mark would have wanted to support, with three sport-loving boys, who have taken on challenges to help others in the past too.
On April 6th, the Legitforleesy challenge will continue with the Big Back Yard Ultra Marathon format, where we will run 5km on the hour, every hour, for as long as we can. And incredibly, over 30 runners have already committed to supporting the cause!
