Story

Cycling 100km from Milton Keynes to London

Hi, I'm Matthew

I am planning a challenging 100km bike ride from Milton Keynes to London in June. I’ll be doing this with my Dad, Mark Wilson, who will ride with me along the tow-path by the Grand Union Canal. We’ll complete the route in just one day, supported by friends and family along the way.

Details of our route are here:

The furthest I’ve cycled before is about 40km, so this will be a huge challenge for me! Dad and I are already in training and I really hope you are able to support me and sponsor my challenge.

Why am I doing this?

Back in November, I was lucky enough to be one of just 16 Scouts and Explorer Scouts across Milton Keynes District to be selected for one of two international trips in 2019 – to the International Scout Centre in Kandersteg, Switzerland and the World Scout Jamboree in the United States.

I was selected to go to Kandersteg and I need to raise £900 to fund this amazing international trip.

What else am I doing?

Collectively as a Scout group we have already arranged a number of fundraising activities and events such as the Bunnings sausage sizzle, car boot sales, charity car raffles, bag packing and odd jobs such as car washing and lawn mowing. We’ll continue with these fundraising activities over the next 18 months.

Any additional funds raised will go into the collective fundraising pot for Milton Keynes Scouts and Explorer Scouts attending the international trips.

What is Kandersteg?

The Kandersteg International Scout Centre was set up in 1923 as a permanent mini jamboree where Scouts from all over the world could meet. More than 12,000 young people from 40 countries visit each year.

Very many thanks to all.
