Story

Jenda Health Centre is the only public Health centre in Mzimba South Constituency whose other hospital is a mission hospital which is run by the Church of Central Africa Presbetry (CCAP) at Embangweni. Bothe Embangweni Hospital and Jenda Health Centre have no running ambulance which poses a challenge to make referrals either to Mzimba District Hospital which is 45 km from Jenda or Kamuzu or Mzuzu Central Hospitals which are 340 or so km and 240 or so km away from Jenda respectively. For people beyond Jenda, the distance is even more and lack of transport presents a huge risk to pregnant women some of who end up preferring to give birth at home instead of going to the hospital. Some cannot afford to hire either oxcarts or available private cars because of poverty. Lack of an ambulance in the constituency negatively affects health seeking behaviour of people in the area. Both Embangweni and Jenda Health facilities need functional ambulances as soon as possible in order to save lives of pregnant women and the sick in the area.
