I've raised £1500 to help support Matt Smith who was badly injured while cycling as a result of a hit and run accident on 21st December 2017.

Matt is a keen cyclist, devoted husband and civil engineer. On 21st December 2017, while cycling through Newcastle he was hit by a driver which left him with a shattered tibia plateau (right knee). He has undergone two operations so far and remains in hospital as of 31st December, more surgery is needed. The driver didn't stop at the scene to assist Matt or claim responsibility. The driver was a female in a grey or silver hatchback car like a golf, CCTV is being analysed to see if she can be traced and brought to justice.
This fund is designed to raise money to offer as a reward for information leading to the successful prosecution of the driver. We need to bring this person to justice, she is currently at large, posing a real threat to all cyclists, pedestrian and general road users due to her cavalier and dangerous road manners.
If the driver comes forward or the investigation is unsuccessful the fund will be offered to Matt to help with his rehabilitation of for what ever use Matt desires, we know that Matt has given great praise to the medical staff and nurses at The RVI,
The recovery and rehabilitation from an injury such as this will be long and demanding. Matt will have good days and bad days, advances and set backs, but we as fellow cyclists know that Matt has the perseverance and tenacity to get back to 100% and smash those hills once again. We all wish you a speedy recovery Matt.
