Story
Mauritius is facing an environmental catastrophe with the oil spill from the Wakashio dry cargo ship that has crashed on the coral reef. More than 1,000 tonnes of heavy bunker oil have already seeped into the lagoon. The authorities, advised by ITOPF, are pumping out the remaining 2,000 tonnes of oil in the ship's tanks but it is a race against time as the ship is breaking up.

This pristine, unspoilt, environment is of outstanding beauty and home to many native species. The oil is spreading in the lagoon on the East coast of the island, damaging some of the most beautiful beaches in the world (and my favourite beach). Volunteers are doing their utmost to help clean up. It will take a lot of time and require commitment. May I ask for your support please? Every little bit will help.

All monies go to the volunteers on-site through Eco-sud and Mauritius Wildlife Foundation, to purchase cleaning equipment, and to protect the wildlife. If you would like to offer advice or to help in any other way, please do call or email me.

Thank you.
Krish
