Story

Hi as many of you will know my son Max was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease over five years ago. A little about this disease for which needs to be more widely understood so that awareness is increased and hopefully better funding so that more can done.

Mitochondrial disease, or mitochondrial disorder, refers to a group of disorders that affect the mitochondria, which are tiny compartments that are present in almost every cell of the body. The mitochondria's main function is to produce energy. The parts of the body that tend to be most affected are those that need the most energy, such as the heart, brain, muscles and gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms can range from fatigue and exercise intolerance to hearing loss, seizures, strokes, heart failure, diabetes and kidney failure.

The above has now sadly started to affect Max and his ability to do the things he loves to do are becoming less and less. He now gets tired very easily and struggles to do things such as bike rides etc. So my aim is with the help of all of you is to raise enough money to buy Max an Electric bike which will once again allow him to do family bike rides and get out more. Also the aim is to raise awareness as mentioned above.

I aim to cycle 500 miles in February and would be grateful for any donations no matter how much t all counts so thank you in advance.
