Story

In 2018 aged just 17 Max was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma, a rare type of bone cancer particularly in someone so young. He underwent surgery and chemotherapy. In 2020 we were told the cancer had returned and the treatment option was another major surgery and intense radiotherapy. In December 2022 we were given the news that tumours had again been found in Max's pelvis and leg. Unfortunately, given the severity of the previous treatments Max had received, a whole lower limb amputation was the only option. Sarcoma is a rare cancer that does not receive the same levels of funding as other well-known cancers, consequently there are only a couple of treatments currently offered and research into alternatives is lacking.

Anyone who knows Max knows he is the bravest, most inspirational young person imaginable, who has been through so much at such a young age. The NHS has been a blessing for us, but sadly the scope of rehabilitation with the equipment available is very limited. Max's recovery is going well but in order to allow him to regain some independence a lot of adjustment is needed. Given that he is so young and has always loved being active, we are looking to raise money to fund equipment to help with his mobility and rehab which is not available on the NHS. We have a couple of fundraising ideas coming in the next few months!
