Maxine's Story

As many of you are already aware, Maxine Amis was involved in a devastating cycling accident in July 2018. She suffered a C2 spinal cord injury which has left her paralysed from the neck down. The severity of the injury has affected her respiratory muscles and her ability to breathe independently so she has to rely on a ventilator.

Everyone is doing their best to cope but it’s a daily struggle. Maxine’s family and friends are a great source of comfort to her but the challenges for all involved are enormous and life-long. Despite the terrible thing that has happened to her, Maxine is still a determined and inspiring woman.

We are all determined to improve Maxine’s life in any way we can. If she is to be able to leave residential care and have any sort of independence she will need 24/7 support and specially adapted equipment.

As the van involved in the accident was legally parked, there is no compensation. All monies raised will be used to provide essential equipment and additional extras to allow Maxine a better quality of life when she returns home.

Maxine has astounded everyone with the recovery she has made so far. The bravery and mental strength she has shown throughout has been unbelievable. Any donation to this cause will be gratefully received, as will support of future fundraising events. We want to help her afford equipment that will enhance her life, so please share this page and help us build a better future for our dear Maxine.

Thank you from the Amis/Walker family and friends.
