State schools are struggling financially. Increasing operational costs are not being adequately provided for by government, yet we as parents still expect the best from our schools. Most schools are having to cut back on all but those facilities required to deliver basic educational outcomes.

Every year for the past 6 years the Downs School has held a 10km walk along the Ridgeway as a core fixture in their fundraising calendar. Over the 6 years this event has raised £105000, contributing to a new minibus, new astroturf fields, outdoor playground areas and table tennis tables for the students. It is these and other facilities that make the Downs School an outstanding school in West Berkshire.
