Story

On the 16th April 2020, we not only lost our beautiful mother and loving wife, but the world lost a pure and kind soul who never turned away anyone in need of help. She passed away peacefully and unexpectedly after battling metastatic breast cancer over the course of 3 years whilst also struggling with acute scoliosis, Hashimoto‘s disease, and fibromyalgia, with grace and dignity until the end. She was the strongest and bravest person - she never complained and her smile never faltered, she fought fiercely every day and many of us never knew just how much.

She never ever gave up, and it was this enduring positivity and light that inspired so many others. Despite her own illnesses, she selflessly devoted much of her time to helping others through her health group on Facebook, providing hope and encouragement to those who needed it most. In the last year she also trained as a Reiki practitioner, and took great comfort in her spirituality. She was a support network for so many people outside of her family and was so, so loved by everyone she met.

Her adoring husband Mike and three children are absolutely heartbroken and shell shocked beyond words as she had always been so positive, had maintained the sparkle in her eyes throughout, and so we had expected to have so much more time with her. In these unprecedented times, our family has been rocked by the uncertainty of whether or not many of her family and friends will be able to attend her funeral, and it is for that reason that we have started this page.

Mazzy and Mike were inseparable for over 18 years, rarely ever being apart for long and had such a powerful love for each other. They have been through so much together over the years, and its a wonder to me how they managed it. Our dad worked tirelessly to always give her the best and treat her like a queen, doing various training courses and working into the early ours of the morning to provide for his family. He dedicated months without work in order to care for her towards the end as she started to become worse, and so we are now in a difficult position. In these unprecedented times, not only have our lives been rocked by losing Mazzy, but her oldest son, Sean, has also been in hospital after the discovery of a tumour on his pituitary gland and has undergone major brain surgery. Having been sedated for much of this time, he was unaware of the situation and we have only recently been able to inform him in person due to the Covid measures in place. However, in his condition it is also uncertain as to whether he will be able to attend the funeral.

We have never been a family to ask for help, but there are so many people who loved her, and we want people to know who she was and the light she bought to the world. Due to the current events, we are struggling financially however would love to give her the send off she deserves. Therefore we are asking for donations towards holding a memorial for Mazzy so that her family and friends can say goodbye and gather together to celebrate her life and share the memories we have shared with her. If you can help in anyway, it would be so greatly appreciated however we also understand that times are tough for a lot of people right now, so sharing the page and sharing her memory would be a welcome alternative!

As a side note, we would also like to thank all the wonderful staff at Royal Berkshire Hospital who took care of our Mazzy and allowed us to say goodbye, there are so many people who haven’t had that opportunity and it is something we will always treasure. Also many thanks to everyone who has shared messages of love and support at this time, it really means the world.

Any extra money that may be collected will go to her family, it is my biggest wish as her daughter that my dad shouldn’t have to worry about money right now, it has been such a worry for so long, and right now he doesn’t deserve that. We are also hoping to put anything extra towards giving Mazzy a beautiful headstone
