Weʼve raised £2,361 to Cost & delivery to Contalmaison of memorial bench for Lt Col Gary Tait MBE & Patricia Leroy, who died within weeks of each other in 2019.

Funded on Saturday, 21st March 2020

    Story

We have already raised all the funds for the bench, so have opened up a fundraising page which gives money directly to Cancer Research for those who wish to continue donating. Please go to : https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/mccraes-battalion-trust

    Thank you so much.

McCraes Battalion Trusts annual pilgrimage to Contalmaison, on the Somme commemorates the 20,000 British soldiers who lost their lives on 1 July 1916, and especially the 16th Royal Scots (McCraes) who lost almost three-quarters of their strength that fateful morning.

However, this year immediately after our ceremony we will be unveiling a handsomely carved wooden bench in memory of Lt Col Gary Tait MBE and our friend Patricia Leroy, the former Maire of Contalmaison. Gary and Patricia died within weeks of each other in 2019.

The Trust would like to raise £2000 to cover the cost of the bench and its transportation to France and hope that you are able to support this cause by donating an amount of your own choosing.

Any and all surplus donations will be given to Cancer Research in Gary and Patricia’s name.

We are absolutely amazed to have raised the initial target of £2000 in less than 24 hours. All surplus money raised will be given to Cancer Research. We are going to close this page, and raise a new page which allow any donations in Gary and Patricia's name to go direct to Cancer Research, and allow the opportunity for Gift Aid. The new page can be found at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/mccraes-battalion-trust Thank you one and all for your extreme kindness and generosity for this cause.

Gary was so kind to me during my time at BFBS Scotland and it was such an honour to film at the centenary of the Battle of the Somme in 2016. This is such a lovely idea to keep that memory alive.

Never met him but sounds like a top man well deserving of a bench at the very least.
