    Story

"Nobody wants to see a child go hungry, or have children’s health and futures at risk because of poverty and in particular a lack of nutritious food; and here at Brakes we believe that child poverty is everyone’s problem.
Children are our future citizens, our workforce, our consumers and customers and it’s in all our interests to give children the right start in life so that they are able to meaningfully contribute to society. “

Shockingly, one in four UK children lives in poverty and does not benefit from a consistently healthy and nutritious diet, potentially affecting their physical and mental development; and their ability to achieve their full potential in life. During term time pupils can access free school meals, during the school holidays no meals are guaranteed at any time of the day.
Our Meals & More charitable programme works with suppliers and delivery partners to provide holiday clubs across the UK for children between 2-18 years of age. For 13 weeks of the year we are able to provide nutritious meals and an enrichment programme that will help lift them out of poverty.
We are supported by many of our larger suppliers, as well as smaller companies who have Meals & More as their CSR programme to support their local communities.
We’re proud to be on our way to reaching our ambition of 500 clubs, and support is growing – not only from companies that we do business with but from the UK government who have announced an enquiry into holiday hunger.
We’re always looking for the support of like-minded people – whether they are from suppliers, customers, our own employees, local authorities, the education sector or just people who want to help us make a difference.
