On 18th June 2017 myself and 19 other Leeds University students will be traveling across the world to Fiji to volunteer and live with a Fijian family in their home. Throughout my time in Fiji I will contribute to giving Fijian children an education, a necessity that without the help of ThinkPacfic they would not have.
I will be organising crucial one-to-one teaching and small group lessons, introducing new lessons in art, crafts, drama and increasing students confidence, self esteem and awareness by organising debates, class presentations, reading schemes, library clubs and health awareness projects.
The ThinkPacific foundation supports over 50,000 children living in hardship each year. This includes the purchase of educational resources and sports equipment for rural schools, providing teacher training, improving school facilities, providing health advocacy and providing early years education. The projects small group lessons achieve remarkable results, last year, on average, volunteers helped to increase literacy by over 40 % for the children we worked with.
I need to raise 1295 to fund my project, this includes direct volunteer costs and helps to fund education, health, infrastructure and sustainable youth and sports development for rural Fijian children (this does not cover any personal costs e.g- flights, visa etc I pay for this myself).
I am very excited for the challenge and will be taking part in many fundraising events in the near future to support my fundraising.
