Story

Charity: Friends of Rwandan Rugby (FoRR)

Civil war existed in Rwanda until 1993 and culminated in a genocide in 1994 which resulted in the deaths of 1000,000 of the population, including babies right through to the elderly. Rwanda is regarded is a 'less economically developed country' and is still rebuilding following the genocide. FoRR is a charity that is dedicated to helping the country heal and reunite through rugby. Rugby is an especially powerful sport because it promotes trust, respect and team work.

Life in Rwanda is incredibly hard and the FoRR offers respite to children from their difficult lives and uncertain futures. It is difficult for us in a western developed country to appreciate the hardship. Due to the lack of resources children do not get the opportunity to study PE and sports based subjects and therefore engage in structured play.

Each year FoRR send coaches into schools and communities to teach rugby and hold tournaments for children and adults. I'm raising money to join the next trip in May 2018. Click here to find out more.
