Story
In the summer of 2019, I am hoping to go on an international expedition to Malawi for three weeks with the Hampshire County Explorer Scouts run by the Magellen Explorer Unit. But to do this I need to fund raise £2,500.
During my trip I would be involved in community project work within a village working towards making their lives a little bit easier. Whilst there, we will be camping and learning what it is like to live in a developing contry and the hardships that come with this. We will be doing projects with some of the scouts from Malawi meaning we will have a personal view into someone's life; just going on holiday somewhere doesn't give you the chance to really understand the lives of the people that live there. By going on this expedition I would not only learn what life is like for them, but also make a positive impact upon their lives.
The main aim of our project will be building bunk beds in a school. Girls that go this school normally have to walk up to 20km a day to get there, a walk that sometimes can involve rape, early pregnancy and disease. The bunk beds that we make will enable these girls to live at school during term time, making their school experience a little bit better. We will also be making this scholl a kitchen to make sure every child can have a hot meal for lunch, possibly their only hot meal of the day.
In Decmber 2017, I was lucky enough to go on a similar expedition to Gambia which was an amazing expierence that I will never forget. This next trip will hopefully be as wonderful and an expierence I will remember for the years to come!
