Story

We are very lucky to live in a first world country that provides free, high-quality healthcare to everyone in the UK regardless of income. Our hospitals are equipped with the latest technology and are staffed with knowledgable professionals trained to a high standard. Unfortunately, some places in the world aren’t that lucky.

Cambodia is one of the poorest nations in the world and despite improvements over the last 25 years, health care is still incredibly poor. One third of children under 5 in Cambodia are malnourished and one in every 110 women who give birth dies.

Lack of adequate water and sanitation has caused huge problems in the development of the health system as well as lack of education amongst their health care professionals.

As a nurse, this is where I feel I can help. In November this year I will be volunteering in Cambodia alongside other health care professionals, working in local hospitals, maternity units and orphanages. We will be educating staff on hygiene, sharing clinical knowledge and helping out where possible to try provide help to those who need it.

I know how valuable this scheme has been in previous years and any donation no matter how small would be greatly appreciated to help me get there, thank you in advance!
