Story

<UPDATE SUNDAY 15 JULY> Sadly, Harryette was put to sleep this weekend. She had rapidly deteriorated and started to shut down. She leaves behind an 8 week old filly foal, Diana. Meghan, the other mare rescued at the same time, is heavily pregnant and we are awaiting the arrival of her baby.

Please help us to cover the veterinary costs of these girls, and allow us to rescue others. Thank you.

Whilst billions of people were watching the Royal Wedding this weekend, SAFE (Saving abandoned Fly-Grazing Equines) volunteers were attempting the rescue of two abandoned horses and a newly born foal, just five miles away from the iconic Windsor Castle.

Named in honour of the royal couple these horses had been thrown away and left to fend for themselves on wasteland with no access to food or water. Harry-ette along with her newly born foal and Meghan who is currently heavily pregnant, are now under the care of SAFE. They will receive full veterinary inspections, scans and medical treatment before they are rehabilitated by volunteers and ultimately rehomed.

Although the organisation is currently at full capacity they had no choice but to accept these horses whose outcome would otherwise have been very different. The road to recovery is a lengthy one as they are likely to be in the care of SAFE for approximately 6-9 months with costs expected to run into thousands of pounds before rehoming can take place.

Any donations you give will go directly to the care of these three - SAFE is run by volunteers and takes no overhead or administrative costs.
