Iʼve raised £1,270 to send a group to our partner school in Nepal to contribute to rebuild and community projects following destruction in the 2015 earthquake.

Story
Egglescliffe has been working in partnership with Melamchi School in north east Nepal for over three years and has raised over £2000 to help fund classroom equipment and resources. The cultural partnership has allowed students in the UK to engage with students from Nepal and identify the commonalities of teenage life in starkly different settings.
Last year, the learning project was halted by the devastating earthquake in Nepal which claimed the entire school buildings. Miraculously, and by great mercy, no lives were lost in Melamchi.
However, the demand for the vital community resource to be rebuilt is strong. The spirit of the people is stronger. Classes resumed in makeshift tents within a month of the earthquake.
Working through Community Action Nepal, 12 students and 2 teachers will travel to Melamchi to continue the cross cultural experience, promote the community to our friends, family and colleagues back in the UK and boost the donating power of our school to create a sustainable fund to support the future of the whole Melamchi community.

8 years agoNow that we are back on Terra Ferma, we turn to look to our next event. On Boxing Day morning at 11am, four of us with be braving the icy waters of the North Sea for the annual Redcar Boxing Day Dip. The students who were unable to take part in the abseil have opted for this option. Honestly, I think this might be worse. So for Alec, Luke, Amber, Amber's dad and myself Christmas will end with the splash! Thanks to all those who have sponsored us so far. The abseil raised over £1500. Have a great Christmas!

I am a teacher at Egglescliffe School and along with another member of staff, we will travel with 12 students to Nepal in October 2017. We will be selling, entertaining, jumping, dancing, making and baking like mad for the next twelve months to hit our target!
