Story

Our sister Melanie Forestier-Walker lost her life to Covid-19 on 1 May, 2020, at the age of 64. Over many years she received the friendship and support of the Halesworth Volunteer Centre, helping her cope with and enjoy life despite her mental and physical disabilities. For this reason Hugh and I, and Melanie's partner Robin, have chosen this charity to donate funds raised in her memory. HVC provides vital support to the vulnerable in the local community. Its Isolation Busters service teams up volunteers with those isolated from friends and family, to offer real friendship and support - as we can testify on Melanie's behalf. During the Covid-19 crisis, it has become the hub for volunteering for the many who are confined to their homes, whether it is doing their shopping or being that friendly voice on the telephone. HVC also runs the community car service, which Melanie had often used, and that continues during this terrible period. Halesworth volunteers, and the central team that coordinates responses, are true front-line heroes. Robin, Hugh, and I now want to thank HVC, and the Halesworth community it serves, for the friendship and support they gave to Mel, and for the vital part they are playing in the current crisis. All funds raised will be distributed to Friends of Halesworth Volunteer Centre, for HVC.
