Story

I'm running my half marathon on Sunday 29th October to help a dementia support group in Hinckley called Take A Break that helps local people.

This is a day care group and provides a place for people who have early to mid stage dementia to 'be themselves' whilst giving their carer (generally their loved one) a few hours break from care.

The clients are able to join in activities such as baking, quizzes, crafts, dance, sing a longs, flower arranging etc and the group also organise trips, have animal therapists attend and a Christmas party. These activities are all aimed at giving the client a safe, pleasant environment where they can be themselves and provide some self worth.

There is also a café for carers and dementia clients so that carers get support as well as the clients.

I attended the group one morning to meet the staff and clients.  I was shocked to find that some clients are such a young age - some being only 60 years old and quite deteriorated. Dementia is a horrible disease - my dad has vascular dementia so it's something that's close to my heart.

All the money I raise will go to running the group.

Thank you for taking time to read this and any support you can give however small is very much appreciated.
