thankyou for youre support Mel x #MelaniesMissionToLive💜Melanie Hartshorn from Cramlington Northumberland is a 31yr old biology graduate whom hit the headlines after graduating from Newcastle university in biology on a stretcher. Melanie’s Mission To Live is a charitable trust fund created to fund the lifesaving neurosurgery she needed, which is not available on the NHS.

Mel had successful surgery in Barcelona 3years ago and went on to recover remarkably, living life seizure free, to the full, and even volunteering in a local school... and helping others in the same position as her with their campaigns.

Unfortunately due to complications during an anaesthetic her fusion was broken and she needed to fundraise again for a revision surgery in Barcelona.

Mel has made amazing progress with sitting up and building up her muscle strength brilliantly, but developed significant instability below the fusion, which unfortunately forced her to become bedbound again. A few weeks after developing instability below the fusion, something went crack at the skull and now Mel is suffering horrific neurological symptoms including many many seizures needing skull traction to resolve. She’s bedbound, in agony, in a neckbrace 24/7 and suffering with a host of dangerous neurological symptoms, and her only hope is to get back to Barcelona ASAP for a full spinal fusion, skull to pelvis. This surgery will resolve the skull issues again and stabilise the entire spine, we need to raise £50,000 to fund it, and we are awaiting a surgery date, hopefully in the next month. The team are looking into how to arrange this during the current pandemic as a case of medical urgency. Thank you for your continued support!
