Story
We are raising money for The Neighbourhood Mental Health Cafes, which are open to everyone no matter what stage of their mental health journey.
Turning Point covers Leicester City, Hinckley, Market Harborough, Kibworth and Loughborough.
The cafes themselves are a really important part of the communities they are in because waiting times for professional services continue to be excessive and access to 1-1 support can often come with barriers, such as being too expensive.
The staff at the cafes are all trained in mental health recovery work and are a diverse group of people from different backgrounds with their own lived experiences.
The cafes offer a social space where people can take part in craft activities and games and spend time with other people who understand and empathise with them.
They offer free one on one support with no waiting list, where you can talk through problems and be given help with advice and, most importantly, teach you how to empower yourself to cope better with coping skills and strategies tailored to you and your circumstances.
In turn, the cafes take a huge strain off of doctors and hospitals each week and across the whole LPT NMHC scheme, the cafes often exceeds over 1000 visits across all cafes in a calendar month.
We are looking to raise money to help provide more sensory equipment for neurodiverse visitors by adding more sensory equipment and items that can help people who are non verbal, for example, feel more confident in the cafes.
They are very proud of what they do and it is hard to think of anywhere else you can walk into and get free emotional support and one on one help with zero waiting lists or accepting criteria.
If you can help us to support this amazing cause, and to help them grow the service even more in the future, please donate.
Thank you. 😊
