Weʼre raising £75,000 to fund mental health journalism that innovates mental health care

Hove, United Kingdom

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Mental health care in the UK often doesn't look how we'd like it to look. Too often, it doesn't make us feel how we'd like to feel.

Most of us feel disappointed and angry. Services aren’t there when we need them. The police play too big a role. Compassion is faltering. Stigma still exists for many.

But there is hope. When you support Mental Health Today your money will be used to source and spread the word about innovative examples of mental health care.

Sharing “what good looks like” supports services to improve their level of care and individuals to bolster their own personal mental health.

You can be the voice of reason. You can be a positive push - not just a nudge - towards positive change. You will be saying - this is how things can be done better

Together we can end out-of area-care, make crisis care compassionate and humane, put a stop to racial profiling, support the isolated and those experiencing change in their lives. Together we can ensure Mental Health First Aid and the new Mental Health Act evolve appropriately.

We don't want to charge you per article or put our content behind a pay wall. We want everyone to be able to read the journalism we create together.

But we need funds to continue doing the job we're doing. Digital advertising cannot sustain constructive news sites: 90 percent of all advertisers buy advertising space solely from Facebook and Google currently.

Help Mental Health Today publicise and spread what good looks like. Together we can support the mental health of everyone in the UK. When you donate you make a difference that lasts.

We want the law governing mental health - the Mental Health Act - to change this year. We want the new law to give individuals the right to know what treatment is planned for them when they are first sectioned for mental health care. We are also campaigning for it to allow individuals to nominate which relative can advocate for them if they are too distressed to advocate for themselves

Therapy apps are attractive to users who feel their GPs won't refer them for talking therapies, Mental Health Today explained in an international TV debate. Just 15 percent of people considered eligible for talking therapy will go on to get it on the NHS. Often people will go through several assessment s to find out if they are "ill enough", which can be very damaging to hear.
