I've raised £420 to Merriem's 15K Steps/Day for "Wells on Wheels" **CLOSED**

“No one has ever become poor by giving.” ― Anne Frank, diary of Anne Frank: the play.

I am committed to completing 15,000 steps/day in the month of March to raise money to provide "Water Wheels"- large water-carrying containers fitted with handles, rolled along the ground with ease- for women and children in Rural India.
Founder of "Wells on Wheels", Shaz Memon, invented The Water Wheel. Women (and children) in rural regions of India walk an average of 1-2 miles a day, carrying water on their heads. The weight over time leads to chronic neck and back pain, as well as musculoskeletal disorders leading to complications during childbirth. Women may be pregnant or carry a baby on their back in addition to their load. We can make their days easier.
Women and girls have better things to do with their time, such as work and education. The Water Wheel can carry five times more water than a pail, meaning children no longer need to be involved in carrying water. Imagine a young girl having to carry the weight of a standard airline bag (sometimes two at a time) on her head, for hours?
The Water Wheel is a large, round water drum that is fitted with handles so it can be rolled along the ground with ease. These round containers enable water collectors to roll liquid from wells rather than carry it on their heads. It can hold up to five times more water than a single bucket.
Please donate, big or small, throughout the month to keep me going. I'll be recording the number of steps daily using a Fitbit watch.
THANK YOU
