I have lived in Mexico since 2000. I am a single parent of an 11 year old boy. I have always looked for an education that not only focuses on the mental faculties, but also focuses on physical, emotional and spiritual issues. I also looked for an education that comes from the community and is inspired by parental interest and involvement. Three teachers in San Francisco Nayarit, and a group of other parents are now making this dream real. We are building a new school. We are using a rented house, but from next September we are going to use some land. The money we are asking for is to build and equip our community school building.

This school is based on the shape of the circle in which all of the interested parties are involved at all stages of the decision making process - the teachers the parents and the children.. It is not a hierarchy in which the state controls the curriculum. We are preparing our children for examinations so that all the children have the road to further education if they wish, but our main focus is to find a balance of mind, spirit, body and emotion. We look to engage both the left and the right side of the brain - the intuitive and the analytic. Art, music, expressive movement and spaces such as yoga and meditation are as important as mathematics and science. The children have a sense of empowerment and so they have a lot of say in the running of the school and to a large degree they choose also which areas of education they wish to specialise. The child begins to find a sense of who they really are and they develop the skills to express their authentic truth in the world
