Story

Having lost someone very close to them to suicide, our close friends are hoping to help raise awareness about mental health and also raise money for the Men's Suicide Prevention Campaign.

Three out of four suicides (76%) are by men and suicide is the biggest cause of death for men under 35

12.5% of men in the UK are suffering from one of the common mental health disorders

Men are nearly three times more likely than women to become alcohol dependent

Men are more likely to use (and die from) illegal drugs

Men are less likely to access psychological therapies than women.

They plan on hosting a 2 day event to raise mental health awareness, and inform people on how to deal with their own mental health issues and how to support others. There will be talks and presentations from people who have suffered with mental health, mental health professionals, people who have been close to someone with mental health issues and charity workers. There will also be competitions and a table top sale to raise money to go towards supporting the Men's Suicide Prevention Campaign. There will also be some entertainment and refreshments available.

There are already volunteers for the talks, entertainment and refreshments. It's just the venue they are struggling with as it's a lot of money up front. They have been offered a discount for the 2 days and have asked me to help with raising funds towards this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a very good cause, just a few words can turn someone's day around
