Story
When we discovered in the back of my husband's desk draw, a testimonial about his role in MI9 and then found a badge with three witches in my sewing box, my daughter and I just had to find out more. For over 10 years, spare moments have been spent researching the work Intelligence School 9 (IS9) carried out: creating a culture of escape mindfulness, setting up escape lines, designing and distributing hidden escape aids and collecting valuable intelligence.
The story about this small unit includes future MP's Airey Neave, Maurice Macmillan and Peter Baker; future authors Sam Derry and Ian Fleming and even a future Goon, who hopefully added a degree of humour to proceedings, Michael Bentine.
In 2006 an internet search yielded only a reference to an MI9 book, so we started a website www.mi9-is9.com to simply ensure that this unit's important contribution enabling the return of thousands of pilots and passing on untold amounts of valuable inteligence is not forgotten and to share as much information for other families who also find documents and photographs that they know nothing about.
The site we have is currently only six pages long and has reached capacity in its current form. We are fundraising to help with the expenses necessary to continue the research and upgrade and expand the website to we can continue to document and share the information that we find. Any help you can provide, no matter how small would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support.
