Story

Last October I went out to Uganda with a team from my school as a part of the Latymer Upper School Uganda Project. It was a truly incredible experience through which I had the opportunity to meet the most amazing group of children, as well as to be deeply inspired and moved by the adults running the organisations. While there, we worked with several organisations such as the M-Lisada Foundation and Soft Power Education, to fund and help orphans in Uganda by providing them with shelter, safe places and an education. While visiting these charities, we gave them donations and the money that we had fundraised, choosing how the funds would be divided between the charities after having met them and seen their current situation. Collectively through money we had raised through fundraisers such as runs and bake sales, we managed to really make a positive impact for all the charities. In particular, the Tender Talents primary school in the Banda B3 Slum in Kampala, given we managed to fund the renovation/extension of their two roomed school with no furniture into a two story functioning school. This has enabled them to be able to take in more students and teach them in a much more efficient way, making a huge difference to these children's otherwise desperate future.

The core problem is that there is there is no state education in Uganda, leaving hundreds of thousands of children without the education they deserve. Only to add to this problem, of the 40 million population, 7 million orphans have been left homeless by AIDs, war and terrorism. The charities which I visited last year work with these orphans to house them, feed them, keep them safe and provide them with an education, as well as a happy and vibrant childhood.

I am in completely in awe of the difference these organisations make, and am therefore continuing to fundraise for them in any way I can. Therefore, I have decided to do a skydive with a group of other students from my school to raise money! Any sponsorship donations would be very much appreciated and will make all the difference to these children's future. Thank you.
