Story

The disused line that use to go to Mortenhampstead in Devon which closed to passenger traffic in 1959 is still intact from Newton Abbot to Heathfield nearly 5 miles of it! It is occasionally used to place broken down mainline trains on it, but us 'Heath Rail Link' have had discussions with Network Rail who own the line and they have offered it too us for a long term lease with the option to own it out right for the future. We plan to reintroduce a passenger service again to serve the local community and encourage tourism, employment and provide another alternative means of transport to serve our community and stop the terrible congestion on our roads around the area. It would be a gateway to Dartmoor for tourism and encourage cyclists, walkers and tourism for this very popular destination here in Devon. There would be the option to run rail tours and excursions along the line also
