Story
A recent email from the Welsh co-ordinator Clare Vaughan is really heart breaking. Whatever you give will be well used and give hope and encouragement.
The Argentinian Government has sent up the cost of living so that 100 pesos which was worth £5 is now worth less than £1. They do not pay for the Welsh teaching even though the schools are very popular because of the historic link with Wales and also because being bi-lingual is good for our brains. The families who send their children to the school do not necessarily come from a Welsh heritage but value it and value learning Welsh. The schools have done wonderfully well until last year and now they are struggling. We are walking the Mary Jones' way which is a walk of 28 miles in North Wales. Mary Jones, aged 14, walked 26 miles in one day, bare foot so that she could buy a Bible. She saved up for 7 years.
The courage and determination of Mary Jones and the Welsh settlers in Patagonia inspire us to raise the money and keep the Welsh Language strong in our communities.
