Story
What am I fundraising for?
I’m taking on a challenge to raise money in support of an incredible initiative called Little Bags—a cause that’s all about making a big impact through small, meaningful acts of kindness.
What am I going to do?
I’ll be running all the way from Perth (yes, the Scottish one!) to Glasgow—a journey of around 65 miles—over the course of three days. Not your average jog! I’ve carefully mapped out my route on AllTrails to soak up as much of Scotland’s stunning scenery as possible, while sticking to quieter, less busy roads. The adventure takes place from 31 July to 2 August, and to keep things entertaining (because, after all, it is summer), I’ll be tackling the miles dressed in some Scottish-themed Budgy Smugglers. Why not, right? It may sound a bit mad, but I do have form—I’m actually the current world record holder for the fastest half marathon dressed as a swimmer. So it only feels right to bring that same energy (and outfit choices!) into an even bigger challenge. And why Perth to Glasgow? There’s a story behind that too. I first met my friend Jill (more from her below) in Perth when I moved to the UK, and she now lives in Glasgow. So this run is a bit of a full-circle moment—starting where we first met and finishing by meeting her again at the other end.
Why am I doing this and what is Little Bags?
It’s best if I let my friend Jill explain in her own words:
In the summer of 2024, my life changed forever.
At just 43 years old, I received the devastating news that I had stage 4 breast cancer. What I thought was persistent pain in my hip turned out to be far more serious. The cancer had already spread to my bones, and the pain was being caused by a tumour that had weakened my hip so severely that it fractured.
Almost overnight, I found myself facing a completely different future. I underwent a hip replacement and began intensive cancer treatment, trying to come to terms with a diagnosis that no one expects to hear.
But the challenges didn’t stop there. During my treatment, I became critically unwell. I developed sepsis, followed by further serious infections, resulting in extended periods in hospital and some of the most difficult months of my life. There were times when I felt frightened, vulnerable, and completely overwhelmed.
What stayed with me throughout that experience was the importance of kindness. Small acts of support, practical help, and thoughtful gestures made an enormous difference during some of my darkest days.
That experience became the inspiration for Little Bags.
In 2025, I launched Little Bags with a simple mission: to provide bags of essential items and small comforts to people facing crisis, hardship, illness, homelessness, or unexpected challenges. When life is at its toughest, even the smallest act of kindness can remind someone that they are not alone.
Every Little Bag is a practical gift of care, compassion, and hope. Through your support, we can continue reaching people when they need it most, providing not only essentials but also a reminder that someone cares.
Little Bags exists because I know first-hand how quickly life can change, and how much difference a small act of kindness can make.
Please support:
As Jill says, just a little act of kindness can make a real difference. Please donate what you can so that we can fund even more Little Bags for people who need them.
