I am trying to raise funds for an amazing refugee camp and charity called Lesvos Solidarity. The founders have just received the prestigious UNHCR Nansen award for their humanitarian efforts.

In 2012 they set up an open, self-organised refugee camp run entirely on the efforts of volunteers and donations. They have helped over 30,000 refugees. They desperately need funds to accommodate more people and, critically, provide education for the young.

There is little we can do to shift the shameful political impasse, but we can improve the situation of those who are trying rebuild their lives in desperate circumstances.

The conditions in many government controlled refugee camps across Europe is dire - overcrowded, squalid and at times violent, with little capacity for care and the preservation of dignity.
