Weʼve raised £1,740 to fund new equipment for Heathfield 1 Stroke Unit at Croydon University Hospital..... we're climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to achieve it!
- Funded on Friday, 31st May 2019

Story
My partner, Ian and I are climbing Mt Kilimanjaro from 17th - 25th March, to raise money for new equipment and to help Heathfield 1 finish the kitchenette they use, to help patients regain independence. We want to give something back…..for the wonderful work that the Stroke Team did to rehabilitate my Dad.
In August 2018, we sadly lost Dad, suddenly, and never got the chance to tell him about our Kilimanjaro adventure; which makes this fundraising opportunity in Dad’s memory, all the more meaningful.
Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895m high, on the Tanzania / Kenya border. We will summit with grit and determination on Ian’s 50th birthday and celebrate our achievement whilst watching the sun rise.
Your money will go directly to the Heathfield 1 Stroke Unit at Croydon University Hospital. Where the money raised will go towards a ‘Tilt-In-Space Shower Chair’ and hopefully help them to finish the installation and decoration of the kitchenette – for patient rehabilitation use.
From the Meech family……. ‘Thank You’ to all the Heathfield 1 staff who looked after our inspiring and determined Dad - Brian Meech. You helped our Dad achieve his goal, to return home and live independently again; and gave us another year of wonderful memories with him xxxx

5 years ago7th April: We did it..! We reached the top of Kili at 07:50 on 24th March in 40mph gale forced winds and witnessed a stunning sunrise. It was an amazing experience and created a lifetime of memories. Your words of encouragement kept us going all the way. Our thanks to everyone who supported us with donations and helped us to achieve the ‘Tilt-In-Space Shower Chair’ and more, for Heathfield 1. I popped in to see them last week and they were chuffed to bits to hear they will have this for their patients. Thank you everyone Michele & Ian xx

5 years ago8th March: A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us and donated since the last update. We've exceeded our target..! Training has been going well... I know Box Hill inside out now..! We ventured over to the Shropshire Hills last weekend and did the equivalent in height of a Snowden. It was good 'hiking in the wind' practice too. Ian's toes have healed after his epic 50 mile walk and has been cycling to work. My running has improved, I'm getting faster and feeling fit. The countdown is on...this time next week, we'll be on our way.

5 years ago16th Feb: A big ‘Thank You’ to everyone who has helped us on our way to reaching our fundraising target so far......were chuffed to bits to see it growing. Ian completed his 50 mile challenge walk in Norfolk yesterday in an amazing 16 hours and 24 minutes..! A new PB.....he now qualifies for the 100 miler. Well done Hon x Whilst Ian was in Norfolk I did a 9.5 mile hill training walk at Box Hill, Surrey yesterday. The downhills were a little easier....helped by my cycling 🚴♀️ to work adventure last week.

My love of the outdoors and travel stems from growing up in Australia. Climbing Kilimanjaro has been on my bucket list for years and became reality when I met Ian. Dad received fantastic care from Croydon University Hospital in recent years....help us support their amazing work.
