I've raised £3000 to help fund Ellie's education

Earlier this year my 21-year-old niece, Ellie was diagnosed with Primary Myelofibrosis (PMF). Following numerous tests, and several stays in hospital, it has been confirmed that the next step is for Ellie to undergo chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. PMF is a rare blood/bone marrow cancer, usually diagnosed in older patients (over 60 years old). Recently this has developed into Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and on Friday, 20 July, Ellie started on a gruelling 10 day course of chemotherapy. The bone marrow transplant has been scheduled to take place on 20 September 2018.
Ellie left her current employment when she was diagnosed with PMF and in an effort to turn this rather horrid time in her life into something more positive, has given a great deal of thought to her career after her treatment has been completed. She would like to return to education to obtain some A levels to enable her to apply for an apprenticeship however as she has left school, this will need to be funded.
Ellie has got a few tough months ahead and is never far from my thoughts. She is facing this challenging time with a strength and determination that astounds me.
This is where I come in……. although I said never again (4 times!), to assist Ellie in her “education fund”, on Sunday, 9 September I am taking part in this year’s Great North Run for a 5th time.
I last took part in the GNR in 2014 and was lucky to be accompanied by my very good friend, Lorraine Watts. I’m pleased to report that after a few glasses of prosecco, she agreed to keep me company once again!
The Great North Run is the world’s largest half marathon with approximately 57,000 runners, it is also a very challenging route with over 8 miles of hills in the 13.1 mile distance. Any amount you donate will help Ellie with her A level fund and would be much appreciated by us all.
Thank you so much.
Michele
