Story
Hello Everyone. At the start of next year, I will be attempting to climb Mt Kilimanjaro!
As most of you know, myself and my partner Arfie have been ticking off the Munro count over the past few years. With only 28 left to go on the 282 count, we are accustomed to wet feet and sunburned noses. But compared to our marvellous experiences so far- Mt Kilimanjaro is in a completely different league.
To put it in perspective - Our highest mountain in Scotland is only 1345 m and can be climbed in a day.
Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world, measuring in at 5,895 m.
Due to the complexities of high altitude, the climb is estimated to take us 7 days. Despite having climbed at least one mountain a week for the past few years, this does not guarantee that my body will accept being above 3000m. In 2010 Former tennis star Martina Navratilova failed to summit the mountain after her attempt was cut short when she experienced high-altitude symptoms.
We have chosen to do this climb for 'fun', but I would like to use the opportunity to gain some fundraising for a couple of youth groups that are important to me.
Firstly, I would like to raise funds for 7 pupils and 2 staff from Culloden Academy Support Department to enable them to attend the Camanachd Shinty Festival and Competition held in Aviemore in April 2024.
Secondly, I would like to raise funds to enable a group of youngsters at SNAP (Special Needs Action Team) to enjoy a weekend 'Out and About'.
Both groups would appreciate your sponsorship, and I will appreciate your support!
