Story

Dear friends, family and kind-hearted strangers!

My name is Michelle, I am mum to Erin, I am reaching out to you today with a heartfelt plea for support. My incredible son, Erin, has faced more challenges in his young life than he should have. Despite living with a serious heart condition and other debilitating medical conditions, he continues to inspire us every day with his courage, determination and unwavering spirit.

Erin was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy at the age of 10 years old. He is now 15 years old. This condition requires close monitoring and carries a risk of sudden cardiac arrest, this has placed significant limitations for Erin regarding sports. However, his love for boxing has remained a constant source of joy and motivation for him. Although Erin could never compete, the boxing club have accepted his limitations and he joins in to the best of his abilities and medical needs. The boxing club is becoming a sanctuary for Erin, a place where he feels a sense of belonging and purpose.

Erin, recently joined The Fort Boxing Club in our local town of Whitchurch, Shropshire. Given his condition, the safety measures at the boxing club are of paramount importance to us. One of the critical pieces of equipment that could save lives, including my son's, is a defibrillator. Given the growing number of young people attending the club, having a permanent one at the club would provide greater safety for all members. Unfortunately, the club currently lacks this essential device due to financial constraints. This is why Erin has decided to raise funds for a defibrillator through a sponsored walk.

Despite the challenges posed by his heart condition, Erin is determined to complete a 5.5 mile walk over the Long Mynd in the Shropshire Hills. His goal is to raise 1500 pounds to ensure that his boxing club is equipped with a defibrillator, providing a safer environment for all its members. This walk symbolises not only his personal resilience but also his deep desire to give back to the community that has given him so much.

We ask for your support in helping Erin achieve his goal. Your generous contributions will go directly towards purchasing a defibrillator for the boxing club, making it a safer place for everyone. We aim to purchase the new defibrillator from the Oliver King Foundation, who as a charity have worked tirelessly to raise awareness and place defibrillators across the country and who have trained over 160,000 people in defibrillator training, in memory of Mark King's son, Oliver, who lost his life at the age of 12 years old to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a significant difference and bring us one step closer to our target.

In addition to your financial support, we kindly ask you to share Erin's story with your networks. Spreading the word about his brave endeavor will amplify our efforts and help us reach our goal faster.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your kindness, generosity and support. Together, we can make a profound impact on the lives of many young athletes and provide peace of mind to families like ours.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Michelle & Erin
