Story
Mick is a seasoned marathoner, having completed the distance on 17 occasions. This said, he hasn't run a marathon since 2013. Mick is a committee member of WCC and his son Liam is in his 2nd spell has a player.
Rob is far from a seasoned marathoner, only ever having covered this sort of distance in a vehicle. He’s hoping to complete it & tick it off the bucket list!! Rob has been a member of WCC all his life playing for 28 years & counting. All his family are heavily involved both on & off the field at Woodlands cc.
Mick and Rob are running the York marathon on October 20th to raise funds in order to improve the disabled facilities at Woodlands. Woodlands CC, located at Albert Terrace off Cleckheaton Road Oakenshaw, play cricket in the Bradford Premier League. Fielding 4 junior teams and 2 senior teams rather successfully, doesn't tell the whole story. WCC is truly a part of the local community. The club hires out the sportshall all year round to many sports, but especially cricket and 5-a-side soccer. Up until quite recently, the club also doubled as a day care centre for the elderly. This has now evolved into a pre and after school facility, again, serving a very important requirement in Oakenshaw and the surrounding area.
The club particularly need to build toilets for the disabled. This emphasising their improving role in serving the community as best it can. This will enable the club to partner, for example disabled schools, in the vicinity to utilise our facilities which will further enhance our role within the local community.
STOP PRESS: We have just learnt that a long-standing friend of Woodlands has pledged to double any sponsorship that Mick and Rob attract, so any help that you can give will be worth twice as much!
