A Little bit about Teardrop

Teardrop is a voluntary organisation under the auspices of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. It is affiliated to SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society) and supports bereaved parents and relatives of babies who have been lost through miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or termination of pregnancy because of fetal abnormality.

Teardrop which is run by volunteers and financed on a charity basis was started in 1992 by midwives at the old Ashington Maternity Unit with the aim of better equipping staff with the skills to enable them to support anyone having experienced the death of a baby. Teardrop is involved in a variety of areas which include staff training, the installation of special facilities for grieving families and provisions of equipment to help make memories. Teardrop also manages a special book of remembrance, the Teardrop Tree in the hospital chapel and has two annual memorial service to support families.

A wide geographical area is covered which extends to cover the whole of Northumberland and North Tyneside. Offer of support is given to all those who lose a baby and this amounts to very significant numbers over the years

Who are we? And What are we Doing?

Hello and thank you for visiting our page!

We are Lindsay, Rebecca, Alyson and Joanne. We are all midwives based at the maternity unit at the Northumbria Emergency Specialist Hospital (NSECH). Teardrop is an essential charity to our organisation, it enables us to learn new skills and support bereaved families. Alongside, providing families with resources and care to ensure they are supported. Lindsay’s dad, Dave, is joining in raising funds with us, aged 61 and running strong. And Aly’s lovely hubby, Tom is raising funds with us - running shoes at the ready. So we all want to support and give thanks to the fantastic Teardrop service, so are running this year's Great North Run!

We would greatly appreciate your support by donating through this page Or helping us to fundraise. Training in between and after shifts is always tough but this cause is more than enough motivation. And hey we may not be quite Mo Farah, but will certainly feel like winners reaching that finish line, knowing we've raised money for this amazing cause!

Thank You For Your Donations!
