I'm raising £11500 to Race across the Maasai Mara with a goal to create access to water, education and a better future for young girls and wider Maasai community

Story

I wasn't sure where to start with this, my head, heart and gut leads so here we go:

I’m a conservation professional and long-distance cyclist, drawn to landscapes not just for how they look on an image but for how they feel and function. How they are shaped by climate, wildlife and the people who live there.

In 2026, My aim is to line up at the start of the Migration Gravel Rally. A staged race, 650km across the Maasai Mara. This will be my first ultra-endurance gravel race. I have been told the terrain is rough, rutted, mind melting and at times soul destroying, if your body manages to finish.

But it isn't just about competing in a challenge race. It’s about riding with awareness, humility and purpose.

🌍 Why This Matters:

The Maasai Mara is a globally significant ecosystem but it is also home to communities facing prolonged drought and increasing climate pressure. Where families walk hours to try and find water from seasonal sources. Livestock are being lost. Food insecurity is rising and young girls miss out on education.

Water insecurity affects everything: Health, Education, Livelihoods, Stability.

If my dream is to ride across this landscape, then I want to contribute to it.

💧 The Project: A 250m Borehole in Narok County

I am raising funds in partnership with Nashipai Maasai Community Project to install a 250m water borehole.

✔ Initial exploration and assessment completed

✔ Community-identified need

✔ Long-term climate resilience solution

The borehole will provide: Reliable access to clean drinking water, Reduced disease risk, Support for regenerative agriculture, Greater resilience during prolonged drought.

Future phases will install a solar pump and community access tap system expanding water access to surrounding families.

The Funding Structure

This campaign is structured in stages:

Stage 1 – £2,500

Covers race entry and essential travel to Kenya in 2026.

Stage 2 – £9,000

Funds drilling of the 250m borehole.

Stage 3 – £8,600

Completes the project with solar pump and community tap installation.

All funds beyond my fixed £2,500 race costs will go directly to the borehole project. My absolute dream would be to get the funds raised before the race, so the borehole can be established and in place for me to complete the official opening of the borehole and volunteer at the site for a short period after.

Documentation and progress updates will be shared transparently. The charity is not UK registered, so all funds will be collected and proof of transfer etc made available publicly.

🌱 Why This Aligns

Those who know me, know I believe strongly in: Regenerative systems that work with nature, Women and girls’ empowerment, Community-led climate resilience & Thriving biodiversity alongside human stability.

Ultra cycling is about endurance. Adventure cycling is about the privilege to be able to explore.

In 2026, I will ride across this landscape, not just to challenge myself and show others how we can achieve so much more than we think we are capable of, but to support a practical, lasting solution for the community who call it home.

Thank you for supporting this project! Rooted in respect and a commitment to a more connected world.

Let’s get to the start line.

Let’s drill the borehole.

There is one caveat. I can’t promise I will do well in the race but I can promise to give it my all
