Story

My name is Mike Lee and I will be raising money on behalf of a brave little boy, Hugo Myles and his family . Hugo was born in March 2016 a beautiful baby boy however the family was not expecting that this would be his story.

Recently Hugo has been diagnosed with mitochondrial disease. There are different types of mitochondrial diseases and the form that Hugo has is still yet to be diagnosed. Mitochondrial disease is rare and only affects 1 in 4,000 people. It affects the central nervous system and is life limiting. The illness gets progressively worse, every case is different and the future is still unknown for Hugo.

Hugo is a warrior and every week he battles between doctors appointments and physio sessions which concentrate on building Hugo's muscles up. At present Hugo, cannot lift his head and is fed milk through a peg fitted into his stomach. Despite all this Hugo is a brave and happy little boy who is very special.

Nobody knows what the future will hold for Hugo and we take each day as it comes and make the most of the time by creating memories and showering him with love. All of the family has adapted as much as possible and Hugo is so lucky to have such strong, positive parents in his life.

We are so proud of the way Kristianne and Steven deal with this on a day to day basis, they an amazing parents and always have a smile on their faces and do everything in their power to help Hugo. Their bond with Hugo is unbelievable and they are such an inspiration.

At present there is no cure for mitochondrial disorder and this devastates a lot of families.

In light of this I will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise awareness of mitochondrial disease and for Hugo and his family. This money will be used to help make the challeges Hugo will face in the future that little bit easier and will help with adaptation that Hugo will require.

On behalf of Hugos family thank you for reading Hugo’s story and raising awareness, no donation is too small.
