Weʼve raised £735 to Begin the restoration of the 'Joan Dixon' BK92

    Beadnell, United Kingdom
Funded on Thursday, 29th December 2016

    Story

This coble was fished from Beadnell by the Dixon family.

She is currently in a carpark at what used to be Bede's World in Jarrow.

The new owners of the insolvent Bede's World need her moved urgently.

We raised what it will cost to move her back to Beadnell in less than 24hrs.

The fisherman of Beadnell have kindly agreed to let us keep her on the Benty on Harbour Rd whilst a renovation plan is put together, but we are trying to find somewhere more long term for her to be restored.

MUCH more will now be needed to restore her, this fund is just to get things started.

We will be holding a public meeting in January and hopefully formally setting up a club/association to take ownership and start planning the future of BK92

      Update from the Page owner

Thank you to everyone who donated Unfortunately, following a survey of the boat, with the huge scale of the task and the shortage of volunteers, it's looking like we are going to have to face reality and let go of the dream of restoring Joan Dixon. All possible locations I have been able to find for moving BK92 to are dependant on a credible longterm commitment and/or sufficient funds. I will donate the funds I am holding to the NEMT and advise the boat's current owner and owners of the site.

Update 19th December. I've just come off the phone with a very knowledgeable gentleman at The Tall Ships Project. Joan Dixon is as feared, in a desperate state. We discussed several options, which i will pass on and then let everyone chip in at a meeting in January. I'll double check that JD can stay where she is until then. The Tall Ships Project have already been given a coble that they are restoring, so any work they do on Joan Dixon would have to be on a commercial basis.
