Story
I will be competing in the Causeway Coast marathon on September 23rd to raise money for my son's school, Brookfield Special School.
Brookfield School is a special school aimed at children with mild to moderate learning difficulties. Many of the children attending the school place somewhere on the Autism spectrum. My son has been a student here since Nursery. When he first entered the school he had severe speech and language problems, having a vocabulary barely stretching to 20 words. He also suffered from attention issues which made learning for him very difficult. With the help of the amazing staff and facilities at the school, he has made huge leaps and bounds forward and is now one of the top students in his class. I am eternally grateful to his wonderful and supportive teachers and wanted to find a way to try and thank them. While Brookfield is funded by the education board, to be able to continue to develop and maintain their facilities, they have to rely heavily on donations from parents, charities etc. Their most recent endeavour was the construction of a sensory garden along with new play equipment for the playground and the Principal, Barbara Spence, is continuously looking for ways to further improve the environment and atmosphere for the children. Thus I have decided to try and raise money for this very worthy cause.
