    Story

#Miles4Mayoo - Running 5000km in 2 weeks to raise money to support young women fleeing FGM and forced marriage in Kenya.

Sadly still today some Maasai girls as young as 13 are forced to undergo the illegal and painful act of female circumcision (female genital mutilation - FGM) and early marriage in exchange for money, cows, goats and blankets. This is as a result of parents following what once was traditional practice for daughters or parents/widows being so poor that the can not afford to support their daughters and need the goods they receive for selling their daughter. Maasai Youth Outreach Organisation (MAYOO) is situated in the rural community of Inarooj, 35 kms west of Nairobi. MAYOO provides a Safe House (founded in 2013) where 101 girls at risk live in 4 dormitories. The house not only provides a safe place to live but access to food, shelter and education.

This year The Fulham Boys School have been supporting the Maasai Youth Outreach Organisation through student social enterprise. This is culminating in our final campaign for this year: Miles For Mayoo.

From Monday 17th - Friday 28th May, the students and staff have pledged to run, cycle and walk 5000km as a community.

We are passionate about supporting this important cause and doing our part to help aid and protect young women in Kenya. If you can, please donate.

Stats from the end of day 4! We’ve got a long way to go - almost 20% of our miles goal and 20% of the fundraising total... it’s going to be a busy week but we’re determined to hit the goals!!
