The Sustainable Land Trust widens horizons for disadvantaged 11-16-year-olds by offering diverse learning opportunities in a rural setting.
In the UK, an average of 31 children are permanently excluded from school every day during term-time. Over half of these have special educational needs, while children that qualify for free school meals are four times more likely to be excluded. Already facing huge disadvantage, these young people now also run the risk of further disengagement and reduced opportunities for employment in the future.
We support children and young people with learning difficulties, emotional or mental health problems, and those not in education, employment nor training. Our approach integrates core subjects such as Math, English and ICT, with land-based training and work experience adapted to students’ aptitudes and interests.
We offer individualised support and a range of education and training opportunities to help students, not just into work, but towards interesting and fulfilling careers in areas such as:
