At All Island Media, we are embarking on a summer challenge to walk or run 5,000 miles in support of our amazing friend and colleague, Mel Tidy.

Our goal is to raise £1 per mile, amounting to a total of £5,000, which will directly benefit Mel, her husband Jake, and their two-year-old daughter, Genevieve. Mel is currently undergoing her second round of chemotherapy after undergoing major surgery in Southampton for colon cancer.

Mel is an incredibly courageous and inspiring individual who continues to bring joy into the lives of those who know and love her, despite the challenges she has faced since her diagnosis in August of last year.

Since her diagnosis, Mel has endured numerous medical procedures, treatments, and surgeries. She underwent surgery to have a stoma bag fitted, followed by three months of chemotherapy. Subsequently, she underwent scheduled surgery in Jersey to remove the tumor; however, it was discovered during the procedure that the tumor had become attached to her bladder. As a result, Mel had to have a total pelvic exenteration, with 3 of the best surgeons in the UK looking after her. The surgery lasted 14 hours, leaving her with a permanent colostomy and urostomy, which is significantly life changing.

Throughout her journey, Mel has faced a multitude of scans, procedures, sepsis, and the various side effects of chemotherapy. She is currently undergoing her second round of chemotherapy.

The financial burden placed on Mel and her family has been overwhelming. As her colleagues and friends, we have taken it upon ourselves to set a goal of walking or running 5,000 miles for Mel. We humbly ask for your sponsorship as we embark on this mission, aiming to alleviate some of the financial stress she and her family are experiencing in addition to the immense strain of a cancer diagnosis.
