Story

Millie is 13 years old and has a condition called ‘Rett Syndrome’. She was a normal little girl up to around 15 months old who was walking and talking and then within 12 months she regressed to not being able to do anything without physical help. Her speech was gone… everything, except her personality, her love of music and her wonderful smile.

At present Millie communications through her eyes, her laughs and her screams. The goal is to be able to buy Millie a ‘Tobii Eye Gaze’ device which would follow Millie’s eyes enabling her to make choices. It would give her a whole new amazing life to communicate effectively. The cost of the machine is just under £15,000.

Meadowcroft School were made aware of Millie and her position by one of the parents of our pupils who knew that staff and pupils at the school would help. Millie has visited the school several times, met parents, pupils and staff and pupils were insistent that the school took on Millie as their charity for this year. So far the school has completed mud runs, quizzes, raffles, cake sales and dress up days and all pupils are keen to know if we are going to be able to get the machine.

I will be supporting Lynette Edwards the Headteacher of Meadowcroft School by doing a 15,000 ft Skydive on the 28th June in order to help raise money for Millie.
