Story
On Wednesday 16th August in the ENgage Gym at Edinburgh Napier University, Sighthill Campus, the players and staff of the BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy, Edinburgh we will be linking with the newly set up Doddie Weir5 Foundation in of support for those with motor neurone disease. The staff and players will attempt to lift 1 million kilos in the gym, as fast as possible.
As we know Doddie Weir has revealed he is suffering from motor neurone disease. The 46-year-old former Scotland lock decided to announce his diagnosis to raise awareness of the condition. He is joining forces with researchers to help tackle the degenerative condition, which occurs when specialist nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord stop functioning properly, and the players and staff are delighted to be partnering with his Foundation to help raise awareness and funds to support both Doddie and other sufferers across Scotland.
This will be staff and players starting at 1pm and working until task completed. For context 1 million kilos is:
• Two 747 jumbo jets
• 18 army tanks
• 20 Edinburgh Trams
• 666 Ford Focus cars
• 635 Scotland Squads
This will be a tough task and will set a record which we will look to try and beat annually.
The lifts will be divided between:
• Bench Press
• Back Squat
• Deadlift
• Row
